PR and Racial Equality - Colleen Harris

Colleen Harris has recently set a consultancy which helps map out issues of Equality and Diversity for companies such as Channel 4 and the Telegraph Media Group. She has previously worked as a PR advisor for Trevor Phillips, John Prescott, Prince Charles and Margaret Thatcher amongst others.

‘Crowngate’ and ‘TV Fakery’ - Will Wyatt

‘Crowngate’ was one of the biggest media news stories during the frenzy on TV ‘fakery’. At the time Wyatt promised he would endeavour to “establish a full understanding of the events” that led to the furore surrounding the film about the Queen.

Wyatt now works as a media consultant and company director. In 1988, he was Head of Documentary Features before becoming Managing Director BBC Network Television. In 1996 he became Chief Executive of the BBC, overseeing the launch of BBC Online, UKTV and BBC America.

Critical Pedagogy - Dr Stephen Cowden

Dr Stephen Cowden, Senior Lecturer in Social Work at Coventry University discusses the idea of critical pedagogy. He explores the relationship between critical pedagogy, emancipation and Marxian thought.

Specifically, he highlights the contributions made by the Brazilian radical educationalist, Paulo Freire and the French sociologist and public intellectual Pierre Bourdieu to his own understanding and application of critical pedagogy.

Future Perfect - Designing for Tomorrow - Richard Seymour

This is an inspirational talk that Richard Seymour gave at Coventry University about the challenges and responsibilities of designers in the future.

Richard Seymour is co-founder of Seymour-powell, one of the world’s top product design agencies. Based in London, Seymour-powell has been responsible for some of the most iconic products of the last 25 years, including the world’s first cordless kettle, pocket mobile phone and Bioform Bra. More recently, the company has been involved with helping to develop the interior of Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic privateer spacecraft and a hydrogen-powered motorcycle.

He is holder of the D&AD Presidents Award for Outstanding Contribution to Design and recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from the Centre for Creative Studies, Michigan. He is a Senior Fellow of the Royal College of Art and was voted (with Dick Powell) 6th Most Important Mover and Shaker in British Culture 2004 by the BBC.

Richard is also a visiting professor at Coventry University.
