The Institute for Community Cohesion, ICoCo, was established in 2005 to provide a new approach to race, diversity and multiculturalism.
ICoCo’s work focuses on building positive and harmonious community relations.
ICoCo represents a unique partnership of academic, statutory and non-governmental bodies, combining the experience and expertise of four Universities with practitioners from a range of diverse backgrounds and professions.

Dr Annie Pullen, Course Director for the BA Social Work course at Coventry University, shares some of the ways she has sought to apply Socratic Dialogue to teaching a 1st year module on the ‘principles of social work’.
She argues that the best way to develop ethical practice is to engage students in a process of practical reasoning and building character and virtue.

Philip Oliver is a co-founder of ‘Blitz Games’, along with his twin brother Andrew. In 1999 he was made the Managing Director, and in 2001 he became the Chief Executive Officer of ‘Blitz Games’. Since his position change he is now responsible for the company’s overall management, direction and image. ‘Blitz Games’ have produced games for PC, Xbox, Xbox 360 and PS2, with titles from many genera’s, from ‘Reservoir Dogs’ to ‘SpongeBob Squarepants’.

Baroness Valarie Amos’s political career began in 1981 where she worked in Equal Opportunities, Training and Management Services until 1989. She was a co-founder of Amos Fraser Bernard, and director (1995-1998) where she advised the South African Government on public service reform, human rights and employment equality.
She was created a life peer in 1997 by Tony Blair. From 1998-2001 she was a government whip in the House of Lords. She was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office in June, 2001. Amos was the first joint black woman peer and the third woman in history to lead the upper House of Parliament. In recent months she has been awarded a number of accolades including being voted the most powerful black woman in the UK, and awarded ‘Peer of the Year’ by Dods political publishers in the same week.
In this talk, delivered in Coventry Cathedral, Baroness Amos discusses faith and politics in a multicultural society.

Mike Bolland joined BBC Scotland in 1963 as an office junior before leaving for production work at the BBC in London and then in 1981 for the then newly established Channel 4. There he was the first media employee in the UK responsible for youth programming before becoming the Channel’s Head of Arts and Entertainment (1987 – 1990). Currently Mike works as a freelance television consultant and writer and has been head of TV at the National Film and Television School since 2006. This Coventry Conversation was recorded as part of Channel 4 Day at Coventry University.

Jon Snow presents Channel 4’s award winning ‘Channel Four News’. In April 1989 he was made the lead presenter shortly after joining. Jon was named Journalist of the Year at the Royal Television Society Awards in 2006 for his coverage of America’s New Orleans disaster, Pakistan and Africa. Jon has also anchored Nelson Mandela’s walk to freedom in 1990 and the Berlin Wall collapse in 1989.

Kevin Lygo was Channel 4’s head of entertainment between 1998 and 2001 where he commissioned programs such as TFI Friday, Smack the Pony and Spaced. He has also worked for Channel Five as Controller of Programs, and then he returned to Channel Four as Controller in 2003. He is now the Director of Television and Content for the channel.
